2009/10 ATHLETE BIOS

WHITLEY SHEEHAN-SWIMMING

Whitley is a competitive swimmer who has been competing for 7 years.

Her best stroke is breaststroke and she enjoys sprints the most. Last year

she achieved her Western National time standard.  She was put to the test a few years

ago when her swim team travelled to Arizona to compete against American teams. Whitley

said the trip was great fun but also a lot of hard work. “Those Americans sure know how

to train hard!” Her goals for this year are to achieve her Senior National time

standard in all the breaststroke races and to earn a spot on a university team.

In the next 5 years, she hopes to see herself competing on an international level.

“I hope to use the Athlete Enhancement Program to learn about the other factors in

training other than practice, such as recovery, nutrition and especially mental

training.”

LYNDIN LEWIS- HOCKEY

Born in Grimshaw AB, Lyndin now lives in Grande Prairie and is no stranger to the Midget AAA Storm, this being his 3rd year making this prestige team.   In his spare time he likes to hang out with friends and play video games and watch movies like “The Hangover” (his favourite!).   Lyndin’s hockey career plan is simple: next year he plans to play Junior “A” and then move on to NCAA and Pro Hockey.   He tags himself as a “goal scorer” and says his favourite things about hockey are the competition, the excitement of scoring goals and meeting lots of new people.  Lyndin says that “being part of the Athlete Enhancement Program has really helped him take his game and preparation to the next level”.

ZACK MUNGALL-HOCKEY

Born and raised in Grande Prairie, Zack came up through the Minor Hockey System playing on the U16 team last year and currently plays for the Midget AAA Storm.  He plans to play Junior “A” next year and future goals include getting a scholarship to continue to play the sport he loves, move on to the pros and pursue a career in Sports Medicine.  He describes himself as a “Power Forward” and loves the thrill of a win as well as quote “putting the biscuit in the basket”.  In the offseason he enjoys working out lots, quadding and camping.  Zack feels the AEP program is “helping him get a step ahead and helping him to achieve his future goals”.

KENTON HELGESEN-HOCKEY

Kenton is currently billeted in Grande Prairie to play with the Midget AAA Storm.  He also has some history with GPAC playing on the Bantam AAA Storm in the past.  Standing 6’2.5 and weighing in at 170lbs Kenton describes himself to be an “Offensive Defenseman”. Next year he plans to play either WHL or Junior “A”.  When he’s not on the ice he loves working out and going sledding.  His all time favourite part of hockey is winning!  Kenton “thinks this program is great and has already made him a better player”.

LANCE STEINKE-HOCKEY

This is Lance’s second consecutive year playing on the Grande Prairie Midget AA Storm.  He currently resides in Sexsmith and attends the Sexsmith Secondary School.  Next year he plans to play Junior “A”.  His hobbies include working out, hanging out with friends and quadding.  He’s a “grinder” on the ice and says his favourite thing about hockey is being around the team.  Lance also does his high school work experience with ASDC NW and is learning what it takes to become a successful sport trainer (his future career goal). The AEP program is “helping him to get to the next level mentally and physically and helping him get closer to achieving his goals”.

DANIEL MCNAIR - SKIING

Daniel started skiing when he has 5 years old, and already by his second year in the sport he had joined a team. By the time he was 8 years old he was already dominating his sport with multiple first place finishes. When he was 10 years old he moved from Calgary to Grande Prairie and began training at the local hill. In 2008 Daniel attended the Alberta Winter Games and placed 10th in GS, and 1st in the Slalom race. Daniel was then invited to and attended multiple training camps for “Rising Stars” and continued to improve on his abilities. This past year Daniel was a part of the Arctic Winter Games where he placed 1st in all categories (GS, Slalom and Dual Slalom) and greatly helped his Team in receiving 1st place in the Team Category. He was a top qualifier for the Western Canadian Championships where he received 1st again in multiple events and got the highest points in the boys over all category. Daniel is quite the accomplished skier having attracted the eyes of various organizations and sponsors.
